JUST IN: Allegations of Certificate Fraud Spark Outrage Over Lost Job Slots in Nasarawa

Image
Fresh concerns have emerged in Nasarawa State over alleged misuse of indigene certificates by job seekers from other states, with residents warning that the trend is depriving genuine indigenes of employment opportunities. A Nasarawa applicant, sharing his experience from a Nigeria Air Force DSS screening in Kaduna, said more than half of the candidates shortlisted under Nasarawa State were actually from other parts of the country. He recalled speaking with a finalist who confessed he was from Kano but used a Keffi LGA indigene form even though he had never been to Keffi. Another candidate, reportedly from Kaduna, allegedly used documents claiming origin from Wamba despite never visiting the area. He contrasted this with Sokoto State, which he said deployed a full verification team to the screening venue. According to him, Sokoto officials scrutinised every candidate's documents and immediately confiscated papers from anyone found impersonating a native of the state. The incident h...

Coup in Guinea-Bissau: Goodluck Jonathan Stranded as Military Seizes Power

Image
Former President Goodluck Jonathan is confirmed safe but stranded in Guinea-Bissau after the military seized power and shut the country’s borders. Jonathan, who led the West African Elders Forum (WAEF) observer team for the presidential and parliamentary elections, is unable to leave alongside hundreds of foreign observers. The takeover occurred as results were being awaited. Soldiers identifying themselves as the “High Military Command for the Restoration of Order” announced they had taken “total control” of the state, suspended the electoral process and imposed an overnight curfew while closing land, air and sea borders. Their move followed conflicting victory claims by President Umaro Sissoco Embalo and opposition candidate Fernando Dias. Embalo told France24, “I have been deposed,” saying he was being held at the military headquarters, while opposition leader Domingos Simoes Pereira was also reportedly arrested. Coup leader Denis N’Canha, head of the presidential guard, is said to ...

‘We Know the Bandits, We Know Their Hideouts — Stop Delaying,’ Senator Garba Tells FG

Image
Senator Garba, representing Kebbi South, has issued a sharp criticism of the Federal Government’s handling of the country’s worsening insecurity, declaring that authorities already possess enough intelligence to either negotiate decisively or confront bandits head-on. Speaking on the Senate floor, the lawmaker expressed frustration over what he described as unnecessary hesitation in dealing with armed groups terrorising communities across the North-West. “We know who these bandits are, we know where they are, we know what they want. If we are going to negotiations, do it and finish it; if we are going to fight, we fight it to finish. What is the big deal? We know everything — why are we covering?”

JUST IN: Kaduna Train Attack: DSS Tells Court Terrorists Handed ₦50m to Tukur Mamu

Image
The Federal High Court on Tuesday heard explosive testimony linking Tukur Mamu directly to funds paid by terrorists responsible for the 2022 Abuja–Kaduna train attack. A Department of State Services (DSS) operative told the court that the terrorists handed ₦50 million to Mamu as part of the ransom collected for kidnapped passengers. The DSS witness said the payment was personally authorized by the terror group’s leader, “Shugaba,” during negotiations for hostages abducted on March 28, 2022. Four audio recordings were tendered in court. In one, Shugaba allegedly directed Mamu to keep ₦50 million for himself. Another recording captured the terrorists asking Mamu to help them build a website and acquire public-address systems for propaganda. After Mamu was detained in Egypt and flown back to Nigeria, investigators reportedly recovered large sums of cash in naira and foreign currencies, several luxury vehicles, and a pump-action gun from his Kaduna residence. Prosecutors argue the ne...

A RECYCLING OF OLD TACTICS: WHY THE NEW “ALAGO APC RECONCILIATION COMMITTEE” RAISES MORE QUESTIONS THAN HOPE

Image
By: Owutoshi Abdullahi Ari Once again, reports have emerged that a “reconciliation committee” has been set up to unify Alago APC members. While unity is always desirable, it is difficult to ignore the pattern and timing of such moves; usually appearing only when certain individuals suddenly realize they need the collective strength of the people to advance their political ambitions. For many of us who have followed this trajectory closely, this is not new. A similar committee was constituted in the past by the same person. Members of that committee worked tirelessly, consulted widely, and produced a comprehensive report with clear recommendations. Yet, despite the dedication and goodwill of those who served, the report was never implemented. It gathered dust while the issues it was meant to address continued to grow. Today, we are witnessing another attempt, perhaps not to genuinely reconcile, but to “water the ground” ahead of political aspirations. But the political landscape ha...

NO ALIA, NO BENUE SLOGAN: A TRUST REPOSED ON THE GOVERNOR BY THE PEOPLE

Image
~Digital Aluta Ene.  Time for political permutation is not here but it seems the slogan hitting the screen and neighbourhood of our people has an echoing tune that is strange to political oppositions. While some have gleefully attributed it to desperation on the part of the governor, it is mere figment of their imagination to think the number one Chief Executive Officer of the state who don't have the luxury of lavishing money on things that don’t matter will be caught in such political desperado. Money don't drive him, development does. No Alia, NO Benue, is just an appreciative chant from the people as a result of the speed of development and socio-economic projects going on in the state and top among them are infrastructural revolution and agricultural development. The recent purchase of over 40 tractors just to augument the old ones, is a pointer that the old food basket of the nation is ready to take her place in the comity of state in Nigeria.  Gov. Alia is just on...
