For the next six remarkable days, the ancient town of Keffi will remain in the national spotlight as the magnificent Keffi Polo Ranch marks its 10th anniversary with a grand international tournament. The anniversary celebration, which opened on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, promises to be a spectacular showcase of skill, culture, and philanthropy—culminating on Sunday, November 30.
Established a decade ago by Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, the Keffi Polo Ranch has grown into one of Nigeria’s most admired sporting destinations. Each year, it attracts top-tier polo players and enthusiasts from across the nation and around the world. Tuesday’s opening ceremony was nothing short of breathtaking as the Red Crown and Duce teams delivered an electrifying match, their horses thundering across the field with grace and power before the eyes of revered traditional rulers from within and beyond Nasarawa State.
Often described as “the game of kings,” polo naturally draws society’s top echelon—and this year’s event proved no exception. Front-row seats were graced by eminent royal fathers, distinguished political leaders, respected business icons, and notable personalities from far and near. The atmosphere was festive, refined, and full of admiration for a sport that blends athleticism with elegance.
In a touching show of solidarity, Senator Wadada’s colleagues from the National Assembly and State House of Assembly turned out in great numbers, celebrating not just the sport but the visionary behind the ranch. The Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, was ably represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr. Kwanta, underscoring the significance of the event to the state.
Another unforgettable highlight came from the Haske versus Rubicon match, where spectators were held spellbound. The thrilling display—horses gliding with lightning speed across the field—kept the crowd on the edge of their seats. It was a testament to the excellence that has become synonymous with the Keffi Polo Ranch.
Yet beyond the glamour and sporting brilliance lies a deeper purpose: education. True to Senator Wadada’s lifelong philosophy that education is the key to life, all proceeds from the tournament are dedicated to supporting vulnerable children whose parents cannot afford schooling. Already, 130,000 exercise books have been set aside—10,000 for each of Nasarawa State’s 13 local government areas—an initiative that drew heartfelt applause from guests.
Polo enthusiasts Dr. Michael Oluwa and Mr. Jimoh Bamidele praised Senator Wadada’s unmatched generosity, describing him as a philanthropist whose giving spirit mirrors that of the biblical King Solomon. Indeed, Wadada’s benevolence has touched countless lives in ways both profound and unforgettable.
In his address to journalists, Senator Wadada expressed gratitude to God for sustaining the ranch over the past ten unbroken years. He acknowledged the unwavering sponsorship of Flour Mills of Nigeria and honoured the company’s founder, George Coumantaros, by naming the newly built VIP pavilion after him—a gesture that reflects Wadada’s appreciation for long-standing partnerships.
Speaking passionately about his focus on education, he shared how transformative learning has been in his own life. Without education, he said, he would not have achieved what he has today. This humility—combined with vision—is what continues to endear him to many.
Senator Wadada reaffirmed that when he becomes Governor of Nasarawa State in 2027, education will remain his top priority, ensuring that no child is denied the opportunity to succeed because of poverty.
On the field, the excitement surged again when the Iyatu team faced the Keffi Polo Team led by Senator Wadada himself. In a stellar performance that thrilled spectators, Wadada’s team—featuring notable personalities such as Alhaji Aliyu Tinjani of the National Humanitarian Commission—emerged victorious, closing the first day of the tournament on a celebratory note.
Foreign players and visitors were full of admiration for the ranch. Mr. George Hogan from London expressed that the Keffi Polo Ranch rivals some of the best he has seen internationally. The Secretary of the Jos Polo Club added that the Keffi ranch has grown so impressively in ten years that it now competes favourably with the nation’s best.
He further urged the people of Nasarawa State to rally behind Senator Wadada in the 2027 gubernatorial election, noting that anyone capable of drawing such an array of traditional rulers, leaders, and international crowds to Keffi is clearly a leader with influence, vision, and capacity.
Beyond sports, the tournament has boosted tourism, business opportunities, and the economic life of Keffi and its environs. Investors, banking executives, and entrepreneurs who attended the event are already exploring avenues to bring development to the state—an impact that will be felt long after the tournament ends.
With greater business prospects on the horizon, improved social engagement, and expanding visibility for Nasarawa State, Senator Wadada’s vision continues to shape the region for the better. His generosity, leadership, and passion for human development have set him apart as a man deeply committed to the people.
Indeed, as the Keffi Polo Ranch celebrates ten glorious years, one thing is clear: the legacy of Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu is a legacy of service, compassion, and unshakable commitment to the progress of Nasarawa State. May this decade of excellence be only the beginning of many more years of growth, unity, and transformation.
God bless Senator Wadada. God bless Nasarawa State. God bless Nigeria.
Amen—a thousand times.
