Abuja, Nigeria - Prominent youth organizations, including the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), Northern Youths organization of Nigeria (NYCN), and National Youths Awareness organization (NYAO), have thrown their weight behind the Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Engr. Farouk Ahmed, amidst a heated dispute with Dangote Refinery.

In a joint statement, the groups condemned the "harassment, intimidation, and reputational attacks" against Engr. Ahmed, describing him as a man of "proven integrity, professionalism, and service to the nation".

The statement, signed by NAPS Deputy Senate President, Dist.Sen.Danjuma Bulus Akolo, and National Presidents, Hon Isah Ododo (NYCN) and Bilal Waziri (NYAO), respectively expressed concern over media narratives targeting Engr. Ahmed following allegations by Dangote Industries Limited.

The groups emphasized that NMDPRA is a statutory regulatory authority that must operate independently and professionally, without coercion or intimidation. They urged Dangote Refinery to engage with relevant government institutions and regulatory bodies through established channels, rather than resorting to media wars or campaigns that undermine public confidence in national institutions.

The statement called for constructive dialogue between NMDPRA and Dangote Refinery to resolve disputes, and promoted transparency and accountability in the petroleum sector.

*Key Recommendations:*

- Engage in constructive dialogue between NMDPRA and Dangote Refinery

- Ensure regulatory bodies operate independently and professionally

- Promote transparency and accountability in the petroleum sector

- Encourage collaboration and partnership between regulators and investors

- Reject character assassination and reputational attacks against public servants
