Aminu Muazu Maifata And The Burden Of Responsible Leadership Signed: ENGR. A.A. SULE MATTERS ***
Hon. Aminu Mu’azu Maifata has served in various important capacities, including Executive Chairman of Lafia Local Government, Chairman of ALGON at the state level, and later as the President of ALGON. By the grace of Almighty Allah, he is currently serving as the Commissioner of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, appointed by Governor Abdullahi Sule. By virtue of this appointment, he is expected to remain completely loyal to the administration he serves, having also been screened and confirmed by the Nasarawa State House of Assembly.
This background is important in view of opinions circulating in some quarters suggesting that Aminu Mu’azu Maifata, should not have respected the decision of the State Assembly regarding the suspension of Hon. Muhammad Alhaji Haliru (Arabo). Such a view is, at best, a call for insubordination. As a seasoned and well-grounded leader, Aminu understands the implications of disobeying constituted authority and would not risk undermining the government he is serving in order to please any individual or group.
Some have gone as far as claiming that, because of his perceived involvement in Arabo’s suspension, they would not support Aminu Mu’azu Maifata’s future political ambitions. Such threats are hardly worth taking seriously. Aminu is a smart and experienced politician who understands the dynamics of power and governance. He is not someone who can be cheaply intimidated, as he knows how to navigate the political terrain with wisdom and patience.
As it stands today, since the state government and the House of Assembly have taken further steps by asking the court to stay its interim order reinstating Arabo as Executive Chairman, the Commissioner has no option but to continue recognising the Acting Chairman, Hon. Ahmed Uba Ibrahim, in all Lafia Local Government dealings, pending the final determination of the case. This is a matter of law and procedure, not personal preference.
It is unfortunate that Hon. Arabo chose not to heed earlier advice to avoid going to court. After all, three months can pass as quickly as three days, if there is life and good health. Hon. Aminu Mu’azu Maifata remains on the right path, and there is little reason to expect regret or apologies from him. He acted within the confines of the law and his responsibilities and to whom, exactly, would he be expected to apologise?
